Thanatos – english translation / ヴァルプルギスの夜の夢 (Walpurgis no yoru no yume)

01 Mar

Oh my god ! This translation was difficult, because they are many unfamiliar words used in Japenese. And I need to make a very long research to understand all the words, that I was not understanding. But anyways, we have the last translation of Walpurgis.

My only dissapointment for this song is the choir, which doesn’t appear in the booklet. The choir is clearly says in Japenese. Sadly, even if I understand some words, impossible to make a translation this time, too many passages that I don’t understand by hearing.

I hope you will enjoy this song, I really worked hard on it ! I edited my comment by the way…

Concerning me, Violet, Lidell, the Yami no Marionette team and others people, we all agreed that Walpurgis is surely the best CD that has released Yura forever !

Notes :
— 恐れのない指先で 青褪めたねじ巻きを まわそう
—Osore no nai yubisaki de ao sameta nejimaki wo mawasou
Without fear… This fingertip turns the clockwork, fading in a blue color…

In red. The translation of this stanza is so strange. « ねじ巻き / nejimaki = clockwork or wind-up ». « まわそう / mawasou come to the verb まわす / mawasu = make turn something ». After I just put the translation with the other words of the stanza in making sens. It make me a very long time and research to understand this stanza, because of the word « nejimaki ». And because it’s was difficult I prefer to put an explication. However, since it’s about people who try come back the calamity of Thanatos, it makes sens after I finish to translate the rest of the song.

“成れの果ての私を呼び給うた”
“成れの果ての貴方を呼び給うた”
‘Narenohate no watashi wo yobi tamauta’
‘Narenohate no anata wo yobi tamauta’
‘Summoning my disaster !’
‘Summoning your disaster !’

In red. At the begin, I translate the stanza by « Summoning my ruin of yesteryear ! ». But apparently « 成れの果ての / narenohate » has a significate value, write like this in Japenese. In our case, it refers to the ruin that already happen in the past. However, it was incorect to put the word « yeteryear » at the end of my stanza, since it’s was an overtone in Japenese. Sadly, this word lost many of it interest when you translate it… So, I prefer to explain with this note. After I decide to choose the word « disaster » than « ruin », to be more clear. Since the girl was sealing in a coffin and she’s called « Thanatos » I let you imagine all the possibility of the disaster that she has doing in the past.

Concerning the « tamauta (habitually used by men to ask something very politely) » at the end of the stanza. It associate with the word « yobu = call/asked something to someone ». In our case, it means « that the men asked with greatness, the return of the disater ». But again, this expression lost of it value when you translate it from Japanese.

In red. This paragraph/choir doesn’t figure in the booklet. However a part appears in the official PV of Yura. It refers to the choir beetween 3.09/3.18 of the song. That’s the only part of the choir that I could find, and I put it to have a more complete translation. However, I know that is strange to have only a part of the choir on my translation, but I will always try to have the more complete translation. You can thanks Violet-sama who can even transcribe from PVs !

Thanks you really much for this kind message. You makes my day. Translate depends just of your level in Japenese and the diffculty of the song. But if I’m forcing a little, I know I can translate most of the songs of Yura. Also, I’m sorry, but now, I’m translating only the CD of Yura in function of conventions. So, the next translations will be only after the M3-39. Please, take your time to take a look to everything and I’m glad if you enjoy Yura and my translations ^^.

        Aww not at all, Meriole!
Wow, really? Japanese songs seem really different compared to translating cds or anime haha. Perhaps it’s because they rely more on context.
That’s really neat! I’m definitely going to be reading your other posts ^^

Your perfectly right. Most of Japenese songs are really difficult to understand when you don’t know the context. With Yura-sama it’s more simple, because she always taking her time to write a little comment on her blog, to explain what is about the song. I really wish that more of doujin artists do the same of Yura. Even so, me and other translators, sometimes we find songs really strange, because the song have sens, but difficult to explain (because we don’ thave the context). Also, keep this for you, a long time ago, I was subtitles anime (but it was in french), so I know the difference between translate animes or musics. Song are of course, more difficult to translate, in reason of style and stanza, that I try to keep, everytime that I translate. That’s why more of the time, I know when someone is translating Japenese songs, the level of Japenese is really good or excellent.

Meriole, I can’t thank you enough. That’s such great advice! And it’s so cool that you know 3 languages (do you know more? )
Yura is a new artist for me but I really love her stuff. I’m also really glad she talks about her work.
Thanks again and have a wonderful day^^
